MagnetoOreganics

MagnetoOrganics is an emerging life science company on a mission to enable physicians to diagnose disease at an earlier stage and to make treatment decisions based on the best response to therapy by providing a point-of-care companion diagnostic instrument and assays which are accurate, rapid and cost-effective.

The company is developing a fluid biopsy which characterizes circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from a cancer patient’s peripheral blood to determine the tissue of origin and to monitor the evolution of the disease. Following diagnosis, the same point-of-care (POC) device can be used to run a companion diagnostic to determine the appropriate therapy that best suits the individual patient. The fluid biopsy has the potential to be used as a diagnostic tool in the clinical setting and eventually replace surgical biopsies, as well as a drug development tool.

Based on the proprietary Electromagnetically Activated Particle (EMAP) technology, MagnetoOrganics utilizes functionalized magnetic nanoparticles and microfluidic automation to isolate CTCs and perform single-cell, multiplexed biomarker assays. The advantages of fluid biopsies empowered by EMAP technology include:

Microfluidic format – noninvasive procedure requiring ultra-low volumes of a patient’s peripheral blood.
Single cell isolation and characterization – provides the accuracy and precision to quantitate disease state and progression.
Rapid response due to optimal mixing – allows physician to prescribe appropriate therapy in minutes and not weeks later.
Detection of low concentrations – provides the sensitivity for physicians to diagnosis disease at an earlier stage and provides information on disease predisposition, prognosis and the likelihood of treatment response.
Multiplexing of assays – ability to measure biomarker fingerprints or a panel of biomarkers from multiple diseases simultaneously.
Open platform – ability to develop new POC assays in the future.
Simplified assay development – develop the same assay for research, clinical and POC.
Combine drug and diagnostic test – provide optimal therapy safety and efficacy.
Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, MagnetoOrganics also has laboratory facilities in Eugene, Oregon.
